Friday, August 19 is World Humanitarian Day. Join us in answering the call of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to celebrate the dedication, bravery, and sacrifices of those humanitarians who, far from home, have sought to ease the suffering of those around the world.
These humanitarians often brave great danger, far from home. They work long hours, in the most difficult conditions. Their efforts save lives in conflict and natural disaster. They also draw the world closer together by reminding us that we are one family, sharing the same dreams for a peaceful planet, where all people can live in safety, and with dignity.
Yet, to be humanitarian or to engage in humanitarian relief, one does not have to travel far or risk injury. You could mentor a young adult; you could serve dinner at a shelter; you could volunteer your time in the classroom. All of these could be done in your own community.
This Friday, consider answering the call of humanitarianism in whatever form that call may take. IINE offers many volunteer opportunities that may interest you, and we would be honored to have you join us in our mission.
