Building a Strong Workforce

On September 22, Lieutenant Governonr Timothy Murray and Secretary of Labor Joanne Goldstein will award 18 Massachusetts employers with the first statewide English Works Campaign Certificate of Recognition. These 18 businesses have demonstrated their commitment to building vibrant communities and cultivating a motivated workforce. Through innovative partnership models all 18 of the recognized employers offer on-site English language classes.

In March, we discussed the implications of a city’s limited English language instruction capacity, especially for local economies that depend on middle-skill workers. These potential outcomes are not inevitable. Targeted interventions can help prepare a workforce with the skill sets needed in tomorrow’s economy. For starting this process, we thank English Works and the early adopting employers it has featured.
