We at IINE are pleased to share some of last year’s outcome data for the students enrolled in our English for New Bostonians (ENB) ESOL programming. The product of a public-private-community collaboration between the City of Boston, foundations, corporations, and non-profit organizations, ENB seeks to (1) improve access to high-quality English language learning opportunities for adult immigrant residents of Boston, (2) expand Boston’s capacity to serve English language learners, (3) test new strategies to reach learners at home, in the community, and at work, (4) encourage new investment by diverse stakeholders, (5) heighten awareness about the importance of adult English language learning, and (6) support the development of a coordinated ESOL system in Boston.
According to recently released statistics from FY2011, IINE’s student outcomes exceeded ENB averages across the board. The percentages of students who gained employment and of parents who became more involved with their children’s schooling were 36 and 39 points higher than the reported ENB results, respectively. Additionally, IINE students scored higher in reported learning gains, job promotions, evaluations, and student transitions into further education.
We are proud of the standard that our Workforce Development Department has set and look forward to continuing our work helping clients navigate a new life in America.
