35,000 Sudanese Refugees Displaced by Latest Fighting

Sudanese and South Sudanese refugees are fleeing conflict within Sudan’s Kordofan State and South Sudan’s Unity, Warrap, and Western Bahr El Ghazal States.  The current number of displaced persons stands at 35,000.

There is intense concern among the international community that the latest fighting could spiral out of control on both sides of the border, leading to the type of violence not seen since the 2005 cessation of hostilities.  For more on this situation, please read UNHCR’s release, Reuters, or the Washington Post.
